About the Brontolare High 11” – Men’s Shooting Boots

The Brontolare High is an 11” lace up country boot, a boot made for the field sports enthusiast. Whether you’re standing on the peg on a wet Novembers morning, forming the beating line or working your dogs, the Brontolare High makes for a perfect choice of shooting boots.

Durability, reliability and long lasting comfort for those long days in the field are fundamental features of a quality shooting boot. A balance which has been perfected with the Brontolare High.

Featuring an 11” 2.8mm hydrophobic leather upper and a fully waterproof and optimally breathable Sympatex® Lining. This boot can stand up to the challenge of the most demanding environments.  The Brontolare High has a higher waterline than the other 11” boot in our range, the Cervo Rosso. Where the Brontolare High also differs due to a more relaxed and wider fix up the leg. Perfect for those who prefer less lacing or require a bit more room in the leg.

For traction, a fully replaceable Vibram® Teton outsole offers high performance across a variety of terrains and weather conditions, an essential for any hunting boot. Our easy roller, ball bearing lacing system ensures a refined fit for sure-footedness and comfort.

In line with the rest of our Mogano range, the Brontolare High takes full advantage of the durability, reliable waterproofness and larger surface area of a Norwegian Welt. Aside from the benefits of its performance, a Norwegian Welt also saves a substantial amount of weight in comparison to a cupped outsole construction.

I have been shooting and beating for the last 20 years, and over that time have had a number of different boots and different brands some Swedish which only lasted a season before the sole fell off.
So for the last three months I’ve been looking for a new pair of boots and none seemed to tick all the boxes for me.
Until I found BRONTOLARE HIGH 11”.
Took me about a week to finally order a pair as with other boots I have bought bang on about the quality of their product.
I can safely say Brandecosse do not make such bold claims with out being able to back them up with perfect customer service JANE and to be honest probably the best boots I have ever seen the pictures on the website do not do them justice.
I received my boots last week and wore them straight out of the box for a very wet shootday last Saturday WOW !!!
Perfect grip give you confidence on peg,no cold toes toasty warm feet.
Had to wade through flooded fields for most of the day feet bone dry,and as I bought the 11” the support your ankles receive is second to none considering I didn’t break them in no rubbing no blisters no sore feet amazing!!!!!!!!
      Well done Brandecosse

I have been waiting a while to purchase these boots and I was not disappointed when I received them. They fit beautifully from first wear and look and feel like they are made to last. Very high standard of manufacture and prompt delivery. Thank you from a very happy customer.

I bought a pair of 11″ brontolare boots in 2020. They have been used for mid winter dog walking and deer stalking. I cannot fault them. Mine are a little too big to allow room for thick socks or sealskinz and you really appreciate it when sat in a high seat for 3 hours. Mine have been 100% waterproof when walking through ditch bottoms. After 3 years they’ve plenty of life left in them.

Bought a pair at the Game Fair. First trip out was a day on the grouse . Perfect fit and really comfortable. Having worn Meindls and Harkila’s for years I can’t fault the Brontolare and would recommend these to anyone looking for strong and well constructed boots.

Hi, I have been wearing Mendl Dovre for years however I feel the quality has gone downhill. I am a 8.5 in the Mendl. What size would you recommend in the fagiano. Thanks

      • Josh Trueman

Hi Chris! Great to hear you’re looking to give our boots a go. Being an 8.5 in Meindl, I would suggest a size 8/42 to start as Meindl do tend to be on the small side. However, please do have a good walk around the house when you get them and we can always change size if need be.

        Thanks,
        Josh

I’ve been looking at these boots for some time. Eventually taking the plunge. I really do like them a lot, My only criticism is I think the tongue could be a better fit. I seem to be fighting with it to settle in. Was hoping it would with time.
But unfortunately it’s not looking like it will. Still very comfortable and a great boot.

      • Jane Trueman

Hello Gary, So sorry I hadn’t replied to you, don’t know how I missed your note. On the tongue issue with the Fagiano, the tongue is designed like this in order for you to adjust it, the fit of the Fagiano is very slightly different to the ohter lace up boots this is because of the design being a traditional vamp, (one peice of hide on the front of the boot that is moulded into shape) this is the tradional way hiking boots were made no joins. In the early days of the boot relaxing the tongue may need adjusting and what you do is release the laces, pull the tongue out seperating the velcro part, pull the tongue straight then re-lace this will flattern the moulded part of the vamp allowing it to relax and mould to the shape of your foot. do let us know how you get on. Kindest regards
        Jane

How will the 11″ Brontolare High boot fit if you have strong calf muscles? – best regards R

      • Jane Trueman

Hello Ruben, think I have replied earlier by email but better twice than not at all. I would say the lace up boots would work very well with a strong calf as the laces have a lot of extra to them so if needed you can loose lace them. Here to help if you need any further info. Best Jane

Hi Jane, I have been reading all your reviews and they are very commendable, I have seen your advertisement in the BASC magazine and I think they are just what I have been looking for. After a busy day picking up the boots will be covered in mud, can you just run them under a tap and apply a scrubbing brush to them to bring them back to there original state, wait until dry and then apply leather cream, will soaking them harm the leather ?

      • Josh Trueman

Hi Michael, thanks for your message. Great to hear you seen our ad in BASC. Indeed you can, we have a great range of aftercare accessories which are perfect for this too. As with any leather product, the most important thing is not to allow the mud to sit dried on for too long as it draws the natural oils out the leather. Yet with it being hydrophobic, there’s no worries in soaking them. Hope this helps but let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks, Josh

These boots are fantastic and are 5 years old but the leather has split across the front of one. They have always been looked after properly with appropriate leather protectors.

      • Jane Trueman

        Hello Delyth,

Thank you for your note, glad your Brontolare’s have been pals for five years and good to know you have looked after them. It could be they have just done the miles but do pop us over a photo [email protected] if there is anything we can do we certainly will. Best Jane

Bedankt Brandecosse.

      Neil

I know this might seem weird but can these boots be made with tough plastic or carbon eyelets instead of metal 🤔

      • Jane Trueman

Hello Neil, thank you for your note. Something we haven’t been asked before, we have had any reason to look further for different eyelets as the metal eyelets which are used on our boots work very well. Do please let me know why you would prefer a alternative material? Best Jane

      Werner Lothmann

It’s not review(yet) – but I do need some advise . I have always taken size 10 (UK) shoes. So I bought a Meindl Drover boot of that size and lost both big toe nails, as they were pinching on them. I also have now discovered seal skins waterproof socks, which I would like to wear with any boots. So what size would you recommend I should order?

      • Jane Trueman

Hello Werner, So sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we have missed your note. For our boots we have them made on a European last but have put our UK sizes to them and our UK10 is quite accurate. I would say if you are usually a UK10 then go for our ten. As we say for everybody if you get a pair and after walking around the house find another size would of been better then no worries we will just change them. Here if you need me. Jane

These boots are just fantastic, what can I say but they are the best walking boots I have ever owned. Comfortable from the first wear, high-quality leather and beautifully made. I have short wide feet with a high instep and as I am tall I have always had a problem over rough ground with my ankles being prone to turn over, but these boots have sorted out this problem.

My wife now has two pairs of the ladies boots and I am tempted by the sheepskin boots as a Christmas present for me.

      • Jane Trueman

Awh! Ron, so good to hear, we have put a lot of time in getting every part of our range of boots as perfect as it can be, nothing better to hear good thing of them. Kindest regards Jane

      Marita Lewis

Are these boots 100% waterproof? Picking up in a very rough and boggy area will you change them if not

      • Jane Trueman

        Hello Marita,

Thank you for your note, we have designed our whole range to be hard working boots for all day wear to keep you comfortable supported and dry but at the same time our waterproof Sympatex lining allows your foot to be kept dry but also allows air to circulate keeping the foot fresh and advantage over wearing a wellie. You will see inside the boot the waterproof lining in the Brontolare comes up well above the ankle, above that is the supportive collar, that is splash proof but if you are standing in water up to the top of the 11″ boot it will seep in but the level of waterproof above the ankle will protect you totally against boggy ditches and what ever horrors you come across on a full day of picking up. All of our boots have been tried and tested by a group of “very mean” gamekeepers for a full year – they will look after you. If there are any faults they would normally show themselves quickly, leakers etc we would need them back and if a fault would certainly replace them. Best Jane

Just received my pair of Brontolare high , absolutely over the moon with them. By far the easiest boot I have ever had to get on and off I have arthritis in both ankles so I need plenty of support, fit like a glove thank you Jane for you help and advice absolutely the right choice. Can throughly recommend these boots *****

      • Jane Trueman

Thank you Eddie, good of you to get back to us and just delighted you are pleased with your boots no stopping you now outside in all weathers. Kindest regards Jane

      Andrew Chadd

I am trying to decide between the Brontolar and the Rubicon as a general shooting boot.

I am replacing a pair of Harkila boots (with a rear zip) that have been commendably waterproof but not the best fit ; the sole though is just not good enough on these boots.

I have quite a wide foot, and a surprisingly large calf circumference, which meant the Harkila boot zips would only just do up over a shooting stockinged leg !

What is the best way to select the best boot to fit me ?

      Best regards ,

      Andrew

      • Jane Trueman

Hello Andrew, Sorry for the late reply I had thought I had got back to you. We get equal orders for the Brontolare 9″ and 11″ as a shooting boot as do the Rubicon’s. In general the tall, pull on boots Rubicon’s are particularly made for a shooting boot, they have a strong Vibram sole are are of a height that should sit with enough room to see the fold over of your shooting stocking.

The lase ups have been designed for walking on rough terrain so your lower leg and ankle can be locked in, the Vibram sole is more flexible than the Rubicon’s to absorb impacts.

Hope this hasn’t made the choice even more tricky Andrew, if I can be of any more help do just ask.

        Kindest regards

        Jane

WHERE CAN BOOTS BE SEEN AND TRYED FOR PURPOSE ,DAVID

      • Jane Trueman

Hello David, we don’t supply any retailers with our boots so sorry not easy for you to try on. What we are always happy with is talking over the sizing with you and also when you get your boots and after walking around the house in them if you think another size would of been better then no worries we will just change them. Here if you need me. Jane
